‘Sable’ beaded drawstring purse

This kind of drawstring purses, letter cases and other accessoires were in 18th C. made of delicate sablé beads. This beads were as small as grains of sand and threaded onto a silk thread. A horse hair was used as a needle for this since the beads were so tiny no ordinary needle could pass through them. Some Paris workshops were specialized in this fine beadwork.
