Leather 2.55 Chanel shoulder bag with mademoiselle lock and chain handle, Chanel

The famous 2.55 Chanel bag was named for its introductory date: February 1955. Coco Chanel designed the bag with a quilted diamond pattern in 1929 and updated it in 1955. The double-chain shoulder strap was added, so women would have their hands free when attending social gatherings. As the story goes Chanel's inspiration came from the convent where she grew up with nuns who wore at their waists key chains identical to those of the 2.55 bag. Ever since 1955, several variations of the original purse have seen the light. Some had a different color.
