Netted reticule decorated with Bibila lace floral appliqué and gold tassels

The provenance iof the reticule records it was made in an Armenian convent and given to Lady Mary Grosvenor (afterwards Countess of Macclesfield) by Lady Ponsonby at Constantinople in May 1841. Bibila, a technique of needle lace, was usually made in the coastal area of Asia Minor, the Greek islands of Rhodes and Cyprus, Armenia, and the region of Thrace, source
