The Museum Founders’ Favorite Purses

The founders of the Museum of Bags and Purses, Hendrikje and Heinz Ivo, each have their favorite purses. One of Hendrikje’s favorites is the first bag she bought, which began the collection. It’s a lovely handbag made of tortoiseshell inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

Her husband Heinz Ivo’s favorite dates from the 17th century. He admires the great craftsmanship of the so-called alms bag. Alms bags were filled with coins to hand out to the poor.

Their daughter Sigrid was for quite some time the Tassenmuseum’s director. She is an expert in the history of bags and is now the curator of the Ivo collection. She loves bags made of new industrial materials, like aluminum. Of course, these and more favorite purses are included in the Ivo Collection, the collection of the former Tassenmuseum Hendrikje.
